Intrahepatic bile ducts

Intrahepatic bile ducts are part of the outflow system of exocrine bile product from the liver.

They may refer to all kinds of bile ducts inside the liver, including bile canaliculus, Canals of Hering, interlobular bile ducts, left and right hepatic ducts, and cholangiole.

Alternatively, they may refer to the ducts found between the interlobular bile ducts and the left and right hepatic ducts. The epithelium of these ducts is described as simple columnar epithelium with dense fibroelastic connective tissue and smooth muscle.
